I see Comics Alive as a clever association between images and expressions that stick in our heads naturally. Beside the useful idioms, I find the discussions that happen during a Comics class much more enriching than in any other method that I have used. Imagine every student sharing their cultural baggage, adding their actual living-abroad experience and on top of that, excellent teachers stimulating us to reflect about social, historical, philosophical and religious issues that are hidden in the pictures. These issues, mostly, we never thought about and just took for granted.
After six months practicing, I learnt that Comics is not only a type of book, but also a brilliant way of learning English.

(Note, this testimonial is from an advanced student who studied here in Dublin. Discussions can only take place in advanced groups and are not a feature of the lesson at lower levels).

In France we have great respect for the Graphic Novel as a genre of literature. I love it and I love this fluency program. All my school years, from the age of 9, I had to endure the same boring stuff from year to year.  The teacher would explain the difference between ‘I work’ and ‘I am working’ every year. She talked and we listened in silence. I learned English like that for nine years but at the end of it I couldn’t speak. With ‘Comics Alive!’ I began to speak immediately. At the end of my three month course I was fluent – not perfect, but fluent. I’m going to buy another three month course. It’s addictive! What a good habit!

The ‘Comics Alive’ textbook is a graphic novel.  "Manga" is such a common thing for us, Japanese. So you can have fun studying without getting nervous like with the traditional learning method and its textbook full of English sentences.
